In 2003, Asher Shkedi’s book Words That Try to Touch was first published, and it immediately secured a prominent place on the bookshelf of qualitative researchers and research students. The book became the “course textbook” in many academic institutions and was even adopted as a guidebook for research courses at the Open University. Due to high demand, a new edition of the book has been printed annually.
The book’s success and the widespread interest it generated led the publisher to encourage Asher Shkedi to write a follow-up volume that would address issues not covered in the first book.
This new book, The Meaning Behind the Words, is not intended to replace the first, but to complement it. Each of the two books stands on its own, yet together they offer a complete and comprehensive picture. Some topics are addressed only in the first volume, while others are covered exclusively in the second. The two books may be regarded as companion volumes in a single series.

The book clarifies the principles of qualitative research and presents six overarching methodological frameworks that encompass most of the methodologies, approaches, genres, and methods of qualitative inquiry, along with ways to integrate them.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part provides an extensive overview of the distinctive characteristics of qualitative research. The second part presents the major qualitative methodological frameworks. The third part offers a detailed description of qualitative data analysis processes, tailored to the various methodologies.
